Embedit is a cool site that lets you embed files into your website or blog, with some great features. You can mark up or highlight parts of a file to make sure your audience sees certain parts, there are analytics about how viewers are using your documents, and you can enable or disable downloading, printing and embedding of your documents.



Documents can be viewed in multiple ways: embed directly, thumbnails that open in overlay, or links that open in overlay.


You can embed lots of different types of files, up to 20MB in size. File types include:
  • Documents: Word (DOC/DOCX), Excel (XLS/XLSX), PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX), WPD, ODT, ODP, ODS, PDF
  • Images: GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, PSD
  • Vector Graphics: API, EPS, PS
  • Text: TXT, RTF, CSV
  • Code: HTML, SQL, JS
  • Web: Web pages or other URLs

Zoom.it to Display Large #Infographics

Zoom.it is a neat application for displaying large images in blogs, wikis, and websites. Zoom.it creates a display of your images in a format that allows you to zoom in, zoom out, and scroll around a large image. To use Zoom.it your image does need to be hosted online somewhere (Flickr and Picasa work fine). Then to create your zoomable image just copy the url of your hosted image and paste it into Zoom.it. You can then share your image by giving people the direct link to it or embedding the image into your blog or website. Check out my zoomable image below.

Try Miro - A Free, Open-Source Video & Music Player

The EdTech Maestro is a big believer in this...


You're probably familiar with iTunes and Google Music, but have you tried Miro? Miro is an open source media player available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. With Miro installed on your computer you can search for, watch, listen to, and download media. You can search multiple video sources including YouTube and Hulu within the Miro player. When you find a video that you like, you can download it and store it in the Miro player.

If you choose to allow it, Miro can search your computer for existing media files to add to your Miro player. The Miro player can also be synced with your Android device. The latest version of Miro has the capability to stream between devices over a local network. The video below offers an overview of Miro.



Applications for Education
Miro provides a great way to download videos to use offline. If you work in a school that blocks most video sites, Miro is a good application to have installed on your laptop. Download the videos you want to show to students at home and then play them back at school regardless of Internet availability. The mainstream media channels on Miro provide thousands of videos relevant to all content areas.

Create Videos Online with WeVideo in Google Drive

For the last six months I've been sharing WeVideo with anyone who has come to me searching for a good online video creation tool. I live WeVideo because it is cloud-based and collaborative. They released an Android app in March that makes mobile, collaborative video editing possible. Now they have a Google Drive app too. The WeVideo Google Drive app allows you to save all of your video projects in your Google Drive account. Learn more about it in the video below.

Gymnasium for the Brain

Gymnasium for the Brain is a site I just found out about from Edgalaxy.  This is a nice site for educational games/activities to help stimulate the brain.  Ideally, this site is geared toward helping students solve math problems but there is much more, such as: puzzles, patterns, etc.

Present.me - Sync Audio and Video to Your Slideshows

The EdTechMaestro loves this...


Present.me is a handy service for recording video and or audio to accompany your slides. Present.me allows you to sync your recorded audio and video to your slides then publish everything as one complete package. Here's how it works; upload a set of slides to your Present.me account, then use your webcam to record a video of yourself talking about those slides. Your video and slides will appear side-by-side when you have finished recording. If you don't want to record a video, you can simply record audio only.

Present.me accepts a large variety of presentation file types. And if you sign-in with your Google account, you can import presentations to Present.me from your Google Drive account.

Present.me allows you to have three presentations for free before you have to either delete an old presentation or upgrade your account.

Applications for Education
Present.me could be a great tool for teachers trying out the flipped classroom model. Aside from the flipped classroom model, using Present.me to record a presentation and posting it online could be helpful for students who are absent on the day that you give a short lecture. Recording a presentation and posting it online with Present.me could also be helpful for students who need some accessible review materials.
